Kingdom of Heaven - Battle of Jerusalem (1/8) - HD
It is the time of the Crusades during the Middle Ages - the world shaping 200-year collision between Europe and the East. A blacksmith named Balian has lost his family and nearly his faith. The religious wars raging in the far-off Holy Land seem remote to him, yet he is pulled into that immense drama. Amid the pageantry and intrigues of medieval Jerusalem he falls in love, grows into a leader, and ultimately uses all his courage and skill to defend the city against staggering odds. Destiny comes seeking Balian in the form of a great knight, Godfrey of Ibelin, a Crusader briefly home to France from fighting in the East. Revealing himself as Balian's father, Godfrey shows him the true meaning of knighthood and takes him on a journey across continents to the fabled Holy City.

What Hollywood gets wrong about most trebuchets scenes is that they'd have to get within 200 yards to do some real damage and would be under attack by the archers who could shoot that easily. Maybe Werewolf wouldnt have been or the other larger ones would be 400 yards away, but the ones pulled by hand would be totally vulnerable

Almost like a modern artillery barrage, just way more terrifying

    • kingulv

the most terrifing thing about arty is the shrapnel mowing u down, its not the explosion that kills people its the metal fragments going everywhere cutting u to pieces

    • NiekGAE

I'd say this is exactly like a modern artillery barrage because flaming trebuchet missiles, if they even existed at all which I doubt, wouldn't explode like they do here. But fire is cooler I guess.

    • vermas4

@TaZ101SAGA no arguing there, Krupp guns are terrifying

    • TaZ101SAGA

Ha, Id' argue a WW1 artillery barrage would top anything even today because of the sheer volume of ammunition that was expended in a short period.

    • vermas4

@Jiado but they are faster, with this you have to wait for the things to come down

    Saracens using trebuchets?

      daylon boender

@bowie the dog they didnt "invent" the trebuchet lol they simply improved them making them easier to build by having a box of weights that u could change compared to led based trebuchets. The Chinese were the first ones recorded of having a trebuchet but those were pulled by hand.

They _invented_ them. The first description of a counterweight trebuchet comes from a commentary on the conquests of Saladin by Mardi ibn Ali al-Tarsusi in 1187

Eren Rager Most catapults hurled tiny boulders, only a few catapults could hurl boulders big enough to destroy walls like Warwolf in the medieval ages

    • Talote1983

@Eren Rager actually the term "catapult" comes from katá (downward) peltes (light shield). Meaning something like "breaking shields from above".

    • Talote1983

@Eren Rager they did that too.

    • Eren Rager
      Eren Rager

@Talote1983 I thought even those "catapults" still hurled rocks, just smaller ones which meant they are more of an anti-personnel weapon than a siege engine.

    • Talote1983

@Eren Rager what we now call "ballistas". It's the same device, the names were inverted.
